Same floor, the right absorbents

BEFORE
BEFORE
AFTER
AFTER

Left: the spill creeping towards the drain. Right: the same floor, clean and dry after the right absorbents.

Why the first hour costs you the fine (and why you only notice once it is too late)

At 03:12 the pager goes off. The leak is already on the road. You are first on scene.

And the clock is running. The fire brigade hands over and drives off. From that moment the pool is yours. The rinse water too. And the fine if it goes wrong.

Do you rinse first and contain after? Then you chase the substance into the sewer. Do you grab the wrong granules? Then they react, or they do nothing. Do you cover the drain too late? Then the substance is in the soil.

So the inspector stands at the drain soon. He asks where the water went. If you have no answer, the second file begins: investigation, cleanup, enforcement.

And this is only step 1 of the playbook. Below you can see where the rest of that hour goes wrong.

What is in it for you?

Less environmental damage

Contain in time and the substance stays out of the sewer and the soil. That saves investigation, cleanup and fines.

The road open sooner

A set order works faster than improvising. Every hour the lane is closed counts.

Less risk for your people

First identify, then act. That way you avoid a wrong reaction and injury on the spot.

Your file holds up

You record what you did and with what. That covers your liability at enforcement and insurance.

The 11 steps of the playbook: each step is a spot where the first hour goes wrong

Everyone thinks: water on it, done. But what you chase into the drain comes back as a soil investigation. At a spill, the order is everything. First make yourself and the surroundings safe. Then identify the substance. Then contain. Only after that absorb, and last of all clean and dispose.

We make the chemistry for that work ourselves, in our own lab. From that practice we see the same thing every week: crews lose time and money in the same spots. The wrong granules, rinsing too early, the file that does not hold up. That whole order is now in a free playbook. In plain words. Per step it says what you do and why. And at the back the list of what you want in stock before the call comes.

Inside the guide you will find:

  • Step 1 of the playbook: what is on the truck before the call comes. That list decides whether you contain or chase the pool.
  • Step 3: the three questions at the drum, before you touch anything. Is it acid, can it burn, does it mix with water. The rest follows from that.
  • Step 5: why you close the drain first and only then clean up. And how a ring of absorbent socks holds the pool back until you are ready.
  • Step 7: which of the three kinds of granules goes with which substance. Grab the wrong one and they work against you, or they react.
  • Step 9: the four photos and the one form that put the insurer on your side instead of across from you.
  • Step 11: what you say, word for word, to the inspector when they stand at the drain and ask where the rinse water went.

What the people who tried it say

Our customers are salvage crews, environmental services and terminals all over the Netherlands. We keep their company names private, that is part of doing business. You may read their words.

“We used to rinse straight away. Until an inspector asked where the water went. Since the playbook we seal the drain first. That question has never been a problem again.”
RonaldOwner, salvage company
“They did not turn up with a folder. They asked: what leaks at your place most often? Send it over. A few weeks later there was a sample that truly took on the substance.”
WesleyCrew lead, environmental service
“We had one kind of granule on the truck. Cheap. Until it started reacting on an aggressive substance. Now there are three kinds, neatly apart. Saves a second round.”
PatrickOn-call duty, incidents
“Honestly, I thought: another supplier. But the sample took up the oil without leaving a slippery film. On a road surface that is exactly what it is about.”
HakanSite foreman, road contractor
“One Sunday night we sat without the right chemical. I called, and the same night a drum was ready to collect. You do not forget that.”
MarloesCoordinator, terminal
“What helped me most is the stock list. I ran the kit against it. Two things were missing that you really do not want to miss at three in the morning.”

An honest letter from the our lab bench

Dear professional,

We are a Dutch factory. Our place smells of chemistry. We make cleaning chemicals, every day, for years.

Every week people send us their substances. Diesel soaked into concrete. An acid that has eaten into the floor. A mix of oil and additives that a plain chemical does not touch. In our lab we work out which chemical takes it, and which granules go on it. That is our trade.

And in all those years we kept seeing the same thing. Crews pay too much after an incident. Not because they do not know their work. But because in that first hour, under pressure and in the dark, one wrong order turns a mop-up into a cleanup file.

We always passed that order on to customers. Now we put it in a free playbook, for everyone on call.

Why free? Simple. We hope that after reading you think: if their free playbook is this good, what would their chemical do? That is our whole business model. Now you know the motive, and you can read the playbook in peace.

The Cleanline teamOur own factory and lab

Honest: one bag of universal granules is cheaper than three kinds made to fit.

We are open about that. A universal medium in bulk costs less per bag than a set of three granules chosen for the substance.

But you do not pay per bag. You pay per incident. Grab the wrong granules on an aggressive substance and they react, or they leave the substance sitting. Then you face a second round, or worse, contaminated soil.

Do the math. Three kinds of granules on the truck cost you a few tenners more a year. One cleanup of contaminated soil runs into the thousands, plus the road closed longer and the file you cannot close. That is how you learn what the lowest price per bag really costs.

That is why we let you test for free first. Send us the substance you run night shifts for, and we tune the chemical to it. Your own incident convinces better than we do.

How one company did it

A salvage crew in Gelderland kept a diesel leak out of the drain

A salvage crew was called for diesel on the road after a collision. Their team had gone through the playbook and had the stock in order. They cordoned off first, sealed the drain with absorbent socks and took up the layer with an oil-selective material before they rinsed. Do the math: cleaning up contaminated soil quickly runs into the thousands, and that bill simply was not there.

“We used to rinse too fast. Now the lads know: seal the drain first, then absorb, then water. That saves us the big bill afterwards.”

Questions we hear a lot

Could be. Then the playbook is there to get everyone on the same order and to check your stock. Just at a call at 03:00, with a stand-in on the truck, a set order that no one has to work out helps. And the list shows whether the right stuff is really ready.

Often a universal medium, and that is fine for the ordinary job. But on an aggressive substance a universal medium can react. The playbook shows which three kinds you keep on board separately, so you do not grab the wrong one for the substance.

Then nothing changes about the call tonight. The guide is there to lay your current stock along the list. What you do after is up to you. We make the chemistry ourselves, so for a substance your current material cannot handle, we can formulate to spec. But that is step two, not now.

Yes. The guide puts recording as its own step: substance, amount, materials, times and photos. With that file you stand strong at enforcement and insurance. Without it you stand weak, and wrongly classified waste comes back to the client.

The playbook is free, the test sample too. You are tied to nothing. You read it, you test what you want on a substance you work with, you decide what you do with it. We only earn when you become a customer later.

P.S. Still in doubt? Reading the playbook takes you 15 minutes. At the next incident your team knows exactly what has to happen when. Doing nothing costs you, on that one wrong job, a cleanup file you never shake off.

P.P.S. You get the playbook straight in your inbox. No calls after. We supply companies, so we only ask for your email and your company name.
